Building Team Blog

Update 7/26/21

7/27/2021

In the last few weeks we have accomplished a lot as a team and working side by side with Mission builders.  Last week Mission Builders cut the concrete floors and opened it up for new plumbing and Mike worked shoveling out all of the broken concrete and carting it away.  He also worked with Mission Builders to build walls in the front classrooms.

We also worked with Mission Builders to remove the old boiler room chimney,  which was 2 foot by 2 foot square.  Reached 10 feet tall from the flat roof.  Power hammer chisels hardly made a dent in the solid mass , but heavy duty sledgehammers did the trick.  3 days of effort brought the chimney down.  It will make it much easier to put up the roof rafters now.

Brian worked side by side with Mission Builders to build walls in the fellowship hall.  It’s amazing how much they accomplished in one day. We are all learning from their construction skills.

Today the demo team worked to remove the closets in the old front classroom, which were made of concrete block.  We removed the steel door frames and solid cement headers, which crashed to the floor with a thud!   Far too heavy to move with out cutting or smashing everything into pieces.  More fun to come as we load the debris in a dumpster this week.

We also removed all of the slate window sills in the entire building and the wood trim.  Followed by removing the plastic base molding in the entire building.

Thank you all for your hard work and dedication to this demo/build project.

Thanks,
Steve
